Atkins to Design Jackets for French Offshore Wind Farm

first_imgAtkins, a member of the SNC-Lavalin Group, has been appointed to deliver the front end engineering design (FEED) and detailed design of wind turbine jacket substructures for Saint Brieuc offshore wind farm, located off the coast of Northern France.The wind farm is being developed by Ailes Marines, a consortium of Iberdrola, Renewable Energy Systems (RES) and Caisse des dépôts.The scope of work includes the design of 62 jackets for the Siemens Gamesa 8MW turbines.Once operational in 2023, the wind farm will have a total installed capacity of 496 megawatts, capable of generating enough clean energy for 835,000 people.Andy Thompson, Atkins’ director of Offshore Wind, said: “This adds to our growing portfolio of offshore wind projects that provide clean energy and play a crucial part in Europe’s energy mix.“It is important that as we work with an international supply chain, we advance the deployment of cost effective renewable energy technologies.”last_img read more

Black Queens beat Tunisia away in African Women’s Championship qualifier

first_imgGhana Black Queens beat Tunisia 2-1 in the African Women’s Championship final qualifying round first leg tie on Wednesday in Tunis.The tie gives the Queens a strong chance of qualifying for the tournament in Cameroon  later this year.They however had to do it the hard way coming from a goal behind and a player less.The Tunisians took the lead in the 33rd minute through the spot before Samira Suleman equalized for the Queens.Ghana were then reduced to ten after keeper Patricia Mantey was sent off with substitute keeper Nana Ama Asantewaa proving a hero after saving another spot kick from the Tunisians.With the game nearing a draw, Priscilla Adubea fetched the winner in what could prove pivotal in the tie.
