Man charged with choking, punching, biting girlfriend

first_img Facebook Twitter Pinterest Jose Navarrette A 28-year-old man was arrested Tuesday after he punched, choked and bit his girlfriend after she stated she didn’t want any more children, an Odessa Police Department affidavit stated.Jose Luis Navarrette was charged with assault with impeding breathing or circulation (family violence), a third-degree felony.The reported assault happened at 8:04 a.m. March 7 in the 1400 block of S. Grandview Avenue, the affidavit stated.Navarrette’s girlfriend, 26-year-old Annalicia Nicole Sanchez, stated the two has been dating for three years and the assault occurred in her pickup while on the way to work. Sanchez stated she was in the front passenger seat of her green 1944 Ford Ranger, while Navarrette was driving.Sanchez stated they were traveling to drop Navarrette off at his job in the 2500 block of E. Pearl St., the affidavit detailed. Sanchez was then reportedly going to travel to the 1400 block of S. Grandview Ave. to her job.While on way to Navarrette’s job, Sanchez reportedly told her boyfriend “I don’t want a third, I already have two.” Navarrette reportedly pulled off the road near the intersection of Murphy Street and Grandview Avenue. He reportedly became enraged, grabbed Sanchez by her hair, bent her backward, got on top of her and punched her multiple times in the face with his right fist.Navarrette held Sanchez down by force and began choking her using his right forearm and both of his hands, the affidavit detailed. Sanchez stated that started to lose consciousness and started to see black.Navarrette reportedly held Sanchez down and started biting her face. Officers saw injuries consistent with Sanchez’s statement. Sanchez attempted to get away from Navarrette by pushing his face away from her as he continued to pin her down in the truck.Navarrette reportedly grabbed her truck keys and tossed them over the fence.Sanchez stated she believes her and her kids will be in danger and continued violence will occur if Navarrette returned home from work, the affidavit stated.Navarrette was arrested, charged and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center. He has one bond totaling $50,000 and was still in custody as of Wednesday afternoon, jail records show.
