Shanghai will host IT&CM China 2011 Source = e-Travel Blackboard: M.H The inaugural Shanghai Business Events Week has been boosted by the inclusion of IT&CM China, which will anchor the initiative taking place from 11 to 15 April this year. Launched by the Shanghai Municipal Tourism Administration (SMTA), the project will bring together six MICE events under one umbrella and will highlight China’s increasingly popular status as a MICE destination. “China has positioned itself well on the international stage and is attracting demand through increased and suitable space and inventory combined with competitive rates,” Hilton Shanghai business development director Victor N de Vries said. “Outbound wise, China has an already large and growing footprint on world business.” IT&CM China 2011 is the 5th edition of the international MICE event that seeks to “Promote China to the World and the World to China”, and will be held from 13 to 15 April at ShanghaiMart Expo. Themed “China’s Next MICE Wave”, the event will feature more than 2,000 delegates from across China and 40 countries worldwide. Joining IT&CM at the Shanghai Business Events Week will be SMTA’s China (Shanghai) International Meetings & Conferences Forum, Global Business Travel Association’s Corporate Travel Expert Certification Course, ICCA’s Association Database Workshop, IMEX-MPI–IT&CM China’s Future Leaders Forum and the TTG China Travel Awards.
News channel Al Jazeera Arabic has launched a new look with a complete redesign of studios and graphics and has launched on HD on the Nilesat satellite platform.Ahmed bin Jassim al Thani, director-general of Al Jazeera Media Network, said that the move was the first phase of a plan that also included the lauc of new programmes.“The Al Jazeera screen is part of people’s homes, so we’ve exerted a great deal of effort to modernise our presentation and look. We have employed the best and latest technology in the industry to maximize the production value. Al Jazeera has distinguished itself through outstanding news coverage and reports. Today, it adds more to its account through the new look,” said Al Thani. “This is the first phase of a comprehensive progression plan for the network which includes launching new programs. I would like to take this opportunity to express my appreciation to our audience, and all staff for their dedication to continuously perfecting the performance of our network.” He said the move to HD took “the high quality production standards of Al Jazeera to a new level”.
Russian service provider TTK has signed a network partnership agreement with CDN giant Akamai to bring content from Akamai’s partners to its broadband customers. TTK has installed Akamai servers at its facility in Moscow and the company plans to install further Akamai servers within its networks in the Russian provinces in the future.“The quality of Internet access for end users depends not only on the capacity of the provider’s network and connection speed, but also on how physically removed the content is from the user. Our partnership with Akamai, one of the largest Cloud Infrastructure providers that optimizes and delivers the content of major global content providers, will make it possible to increase the quality of services for end users and off-load the traffic on TTK’s backbone network to the Company’s long-distance nodes,” said Vitaly Kotov, TTK vice president and head of TTK’s backbone unit.
