Some research suggests that fighting over money is one of the most common causes of divorce, especially if the fights are particularly angry or intense. It’s hard, because learning to negotiate finances with another person can be really difficult. We all have our own styles of saving, budgeting, and spending, and what feels right to one person may feel really wrong to another. And in most families, at least some of the time, it can feel like there just isn’t enough money to go around.Perceptions of Spending Styles MatterSo how can partners reduces some of the destructive stress around finances? Surprisingly, one recent study found that some of the problem may be our perceptions about our spouses’ spending styles, more than anything else. In this research, men and women were asked how much financial conflict they experienced along with various other questions, such as how much they earned, how they thought their partner did with money, how much money stress they were under, and so on.When the researchers tallied the results, they found that the #1 predictor of financial conflict was men’s belief that their wives were “bad with” money, which negatively affected men and women both. It also wasn’t good when women thought their husbands were bad with money, though this was less serious.Most of us might have assumed that being under financial stress or not earning much money would predict money conflict the most. It did– but not as much as thinking that one’s spouse was an over-spender. Even couples with plenty of money and few financial worries suffered when someone believed their partner to be a money waster! One way to handle this is to work on a realistic budget together that allows for each spouse’s hobbies, needs, and interests. If there is frequent conflict over purchases, it may be useful to create a small “fun money” account for each spouse that can be spent as each person sees fit, without spousal discussion. (If the saver wants to put the money in the bank, that’s fine too!) But aside from that account, make a rule not to keep financial secrets from each other. I know for a fact that I even pushed to shoot on white because I enjoyed the aesthetic. Shooting on white was nothing new. It wasn’t a sudden cinematic revelation. However, it caught so much attention because Apple influences how other companies market themselves.Apple has recently unveiled two short films to promote the iPhone and its capabilities. These films seem to be Apple’s slow attempt to enter the world of original content — and possibly a new marketing strategy.The Rock and AppleApple’s most recent short film stars Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson through a somewhat-abnormal day. He uses Siri to help him mark things off his bucket list. As one of the most powerful brands in the world is beginning to more aggressively take this approach, this may create a stronger demand for this style of content.Google was also fascinated enough by this trend of video ads vs. branded video content that they decided to conduct their own study about consumer reactions to these two styles of content.The reality is that people don’t even distinguish between video ads and branded video content — it’s a false dichotomy. When asked to rank videos on a scale of ‘more like advertising’ (0) to ‘less like advertising’ (100), both branded video content and video ads were much closer to the ‘more-like-advertising’ end of the spectrum (25.4 average for branded video content and 13.2 for video ads). Consumers see both as being marketing material, but unsurprisingly, they see branded video content as being slightly less so than video ads.Overall, video advertising is becoming far more about building a relationship with the consumer than solely pushing a product. You should also be able to use the toilet without much help.You will need to be careful that you do not dislocate your artificial hip, especially in the first few months after surgery. You will need to learn exercises that make your new hip stronger and take special precautions.You will need to have someone with you at home 24 hours a day for 1 to 2 weeks after you leave the hospital or rehab center. You will need help preparing meals, bathing, moving around the house, and doing other daily activities.Over time, you should be able to return to your former level of activity. You will need to avoid some sports, such as downhill skiing or contact sports like football and soccer. But you should be able to do low impact activities, such as hiking, gardening, swimming, playing tennis, and golfing.advertisementHome Setup Your bed should be low enough for your feet to touch the floor when you sit on the edge of the bed. Your bed should also be high enough so that your hips are higher than your knees when you sit on the edge. You will not need a hospital bed, but your mattress should be firm.Keep tripping hazards out of your home.Learn to prevent falls. Remove loose wires or cords from areas you walk through to get from one room to another. Remove loose throw rugs. Do not keep small pets in your home. Fix any uneven flooring in doorways. Use good lighting.Make your bathroom safe. Put hand rails in the bathtub or shower and next to the toilet. Place a slip-proof mat in the bathtub or shower.Do not carry anything when you are walking around. You may need your hands to help you balance.Put things where they are easy to reach.Place a chair with a firm back in the kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, and other rooms you will use. This way, you can sit when you do your daily tasks.Set up your home so that you do not have to climb steps. Some tips are:Set up a bed or use a bedroom on the first floor.Have a bathroom or a portable commode on the same floor where you spend most of your day.ActivityYou will need to be careful to not dislocate your new hip when you are walking, sitting, lying down, dressing, taking a bath or shower, and doing other activities.Keep moving and walking once you get home. Do not put your full weight on your side with the new hip until your doctor tells you it is okay. Start out with short periods of activity, and then gradually increase them. Your doctor or physical therapist will give you exercises to do at home.Use your crutches or walker for as long as you need them. Check with your doctor before you stop using them.After a few days you may be able to do simple household chores. But, do not try to do heavier chores, such as vacuuming or laundry. Remember, you will get tired quickly at first.Wear a small fanny pack or backpack, or attach a basket or strong bag to your walker, so that you can keep small household items, like a phone and notepad, with you.Wound CareKeep your dressing (bandage) on your wound clean and dry. You may change the dressing according to when your doctor told you to change it. Be sure to change it if it gets dirty or wet. Follow these steps when you change your dressing:Wash your hands well with soap and water.Remove the dressing carefully. Do not pull hard. If you need to, soak some of the dressing with sterile water or saline to help loosen it.Soak some clean gauze with saline and wipe from one end of the incision to the other. Do NOT wipe back and forth over the same area.Dry the incision the same way with clean, dry gauze. Wipe or pat in just 1 direction.Check your wound for signs of infection. These include severe swelling and redness and drainage that has a bad odor.Apply a new dressing the way you were shown.Sutures (stitches) or staples will be removed about 10 to 14 days after surgery. Do not shower until 3 – 4 days after your surgery, or when your doctor told you to shower. When you can shower, let water run over your incision but do not scrub it or let the water beat down on it. Do not soak in a bathtub, hot tub, or swimming pool.advertisementYou may have bruising around your wound. This is normal, and it will go away on its own. The skin around your incision may be a little red. This is normal too.Self-careYour doctor will give you a prescription for pain medicines. Get it filled when you go home so you have it when you need it. Take your pain medicine when you start having pain. Waiting too long to take it will allow your pain to get more severe than it should.In the early part of your recovery, taking pain medicine about 30 minutes before you increase your activity can help control pain.You may be asked to wear special ?compression? stockings on your legs for about 6 weeks. You should carry a medical identification card in your wallet that says you have a prosthesis. You will need to take antibiotics before any dental work or invasive medical procedures. zoomImage Courtesy: NGO Shipbreaking Platform Gadani shipbreaking yards are one signature away from reopening to tankers, according to a report from GMS, a cash buyer of ships for recycling.As understood, the one remaining signature required is from the Chief Minister of Balochistan, Sardar Sanaullah Khan Zehri, who remains reluctant to sanction any reopening.End buyers have been petitioning the Chief Minister and the government to reopen Gadani to tankers, GMS said, adding that high ranking Pakistan Ship Breakers Association members recently asked the Minister to push the matter, however, without any success.“This fiasco has played itself out against the backdrop of a significant depreciation of the Pakistani Rupee, which has knocked more than USD 20/LDT off the local offerings and this has further dampened end buyer enthusiasm and any aggression to buy at decent rates (for now),” GMS said in its report.The Chief Minister banned the demolition of tankers and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carriers at Pakistan’s Gadani shipbreaking yards in February 2017, following two incidents which caused dozens of fatalities.The incidents, caused by the absence of safety measures, included an explosion on November 1, which killed at least 28 workers, and a fire on January 9, which took the lives of another 5 workers.
