Kirk Herbstreit isn’t afraid to state his argument, even if it will ruffle some feathers. Well, he put that theory to the test once again, as the analyst went after one major program on ESPN’s College GameDay.During the show, the panel discussed the UCF Knights and their undefeated record. While a comeback victory over Memphis was quite impressive, Herbstreit isn’t ready to crown them as a title-contending program. In fact, Herbstreit believes other programs are more deserving than UCF.“You need to play somebody in order to be rewarded. UCF, you need to not just be worried about being undefeated and trying to get in the top four, you need to look behind you at teams like Utah State, Appalachian State, Fresno State. These teams, on paper — which is what you want to look at a lot of times — are better than UCF and more deserving than UCF.”The knock on the Knights is their weak schedule, which features teams such as Connecticut, South Carolina State and Florida Atlantic.Clearly, these comments didn’t sit well with UCF, as the program took its thoughts to Twitter.Hi @KirkHerbstreit pic.twitter.com/5wKKG4gINZ— UCF Football (@UCF_Football) October 20, 2018Although UCF isn’t exactly thrilled with Herbstreit’s rant about strength of schedule, the Mountain West Conference is absolutely loving it.?☕️ pic.twitter.com/Ybx49C2HNb— Mountain West (@MountainWest) October 20, 2018If the Knights are going to change the perception of the program, they can’t afford to lose a single game. Perhaps, victories over USF and Cincinnati toward the end of the year will help.UCF will play East Carolina tonight, as the pursuit of perfection lives on.
